They out punked the little homophobic boys who had taken over much of the scene. She should have run from the RCP and gotten involved in their scene. Then again, I should have done some things too.Your driverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06406948739451124566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981949.post-21064367371340631712011-07-07T12:42:25.029-04:002011-07-07T12:42:25.029-04:00Thanks Ish, I've gotta put in a plug for Susie...Thanks Ish, I've gotta put in a plug for Susie Bright's "Big Sex, Little Death"-http://bigsexlittledeath.com/
Much of the book is about finding her way from the '70's International Socialists to her career as a pro sex feminist and queer pornographer. She manages to show a logical progression from sexually adventurous teenager, to TDU organizer, to "Suzie Sexpert". I found it really enlightening. It even helped me understand my own progression from teenage alcoholic spart to my present sober, if curmudgeonly, self.

Completely off the topic- I seem to be on a ride with Yemaya. I mentioned her to my therapist, the yogi. She thought about what I said and said something interesting, "Oh! She's mother water! In India, she's not Kali. She's the Ganges."Your driverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06406948739451124566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981949.post-33661087723610293342011-07-07T12:05:08.036-04:002011-07-07T12:05:08.036-04:00Hey Jon, this post was just reposted on the ever-i...Hey Jon, this post was just reposted on the ever-interesting Kasama in a discussion of Maoism reevaluating its position on gays.

http://kasamaproject.org/2011/07/06/reds-and-closets-my-story-of-survival/

The post that set off the discussion is an interesting read, about one woman's confrontation with the RCP when she came out:

http://kasamaproject.org/2011/07/05/my-life-in-a-red-closet/ishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02750800388443950585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981949.post-9445358023149933012010-10-10T15:39:53.699-04:002010-10-10T15:39:53.699-04:00Thanks Mistaken, I'm gonna go peek at your blo...Thanks Mistaken, I'm gonna go peek at your blog now.ishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02750800388443950585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981949.post-84222452247442660412010-10-09T18:41:53.890-04:002010-10-09T18:41:53.890-04:00Great stuff, a nicely written slice of personal hi...Great stuff, a nicely written slice of personal history.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981949.post-56452296800326456912010-03-23T00:12:03.844-04:002010-03-23T00:12:03.844-04:00I'm trying to remember what some of the ideas ...I'm trying to remember what some of the ideas were that were going around then. I remember a lot of workplace discussions about who was supposedly gay. I suppose they were about gender identity and what behaviors were properly male or female. Men who behaved like sissies were generally perceived to be gay but very few people could believe that a traditionally manly man could have sexual feelings about other men. I remember trying to jump into those discussions by claiming that gender associated behaviors were not an indication of sexual orientation. That sounds OK, but there was actually an implied dismissal of stereotypically gay men. I think I was trying to imply that gay men could really be regular guys, not like those pathetic sissy types. I'm fairly embarrassed about this now, but at the time I think I was a pretty enlightened and forward thinking straight guy.
I remember that internally the sparts were tolerant. Not accepting. Not aware of the oppression of gays and lesbians. More like willing to put up with sexual eccentricities. Their support for gay rights had more to do with their sort of libertarian support position on a lot of things.
And yes, Tweet Carter was vile.Your driverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06406948739451124566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981949.post-77174176782839237102010-03-22T20:26:16.169-04:002010-03-22T20:26:16.169-04:00Hey Michael!
