Welcome to The Cahokian...
A thousand years ago Cahokia — across the Mississippi from what is now St. Louis — was one of the biggest cities in the world. Now it's an empty green spot next to the highway. I'm a middle-aged gay man living in New York City, center of the world, future footnote on somebody's future map. Welcome to the new world.

Without Comment: Williamsburg, Brooklyn 2012
Posted on a wall in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Get ready for May first. Spring is coming!
I love TYPE! (I love the message, too, lol) There is so much design that can be done with just words and fonts, so much understanding and meaning that can be brought forth without imagery. When I was a full time art director, I always had an issue with other ADs that treated the "words" as gray blobs. They were only interested in photos and layouts, and I was always stressing how much you needed to concentrate on the design of the words themselves to really get a point across.
Me too, Casey. I work as a graphic designer doing very commercial and unlovely stuff. It's really inspiring to see how type can be transformed into something so beautiful when it's not just about making money. I swear one of the reasons I've gotten involved in the Occupy movement is to be able to do actually interesting graphic design again.

ReplyDeleteI wonder who did this poster.
Thought I would cheer you with a little Che quote:
