Oscar Peterson

Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson has died at the age of 82. He was immensely prolific, with an instantly recognizable virtuosic style. My own favorite Oscar Peterson recording is his version of Tom Jobim's "Wave" with a swinging string arrangement by Claus Ogerman, from Peterson's heyday in the late 1960s. It's on Motions and Emotions one of his albums for the legendary German MPS label. He will be missed!

  1. Hi ish,

It is a pity that the MPS (and Strata-East, etc.) blogs are now by invitation only. I wish I had an invite to re-visit the catalog of theses labels. Oh, how I miss 'em.

  2. Hi Otto.

    Thank you.

I've only closed them down in the wake of the Megaupload arrests. I will not be maintaining them as private blogs. Either I will bring them back online or delete them depending on the level of legal repression that seems to be happening. I maintain that there's nothing illegal about sharing out of print music, but I have no interest in defending that in court. Stay tuned.
